Tenerife has been chosen to host the gala of the prestigious Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2018, which will take place on November 22 2017 at Ritz-Carlton Abama Hotel in Guía de Isora. This event marks the recognition of the quality of the gastronomy of Tenerife, which has become one of the main tourist attractions of an island that receives more than five million tourists a year.


The news was revealed yesterday at a press conference held at the restaurant Kabuki Wellington in Madrid, which was attended by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Carlos Alonso; The Minister of Agriculture of the Canary Islands Government, Narvay Quintero, and the commercial director of Michelin Travel Partner Spain Portugal, Mayte Carreño, together with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Cristóbal de la Rosa, and the insular councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Jesús Morales . Chefs of the stature of Juan Carlos Padron and his brother Jonathan, Erlantz Gorostiza, Ricardo Sanz, Daniel Franco or Martín Berasategui, who add with their restaurants five Michelin stars for the Island, were also present at the event.

The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife highlighted the “illusion” of the island for hosting this gala, “the diamond of a golden year” dedicated to the promotion of gastronomy. Alonso explained that Tenerife is a destination of excellence “and for many years is working for quality from an integral point of view.” In this line, he stressed that the Island has “very good wines, very good cooks and very good product”. For the Minister of Agriculture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, “the fact that Tenerife hosts the next Gala of the Michelin guide is great news for the Canary Islands, which comes to note the effort that is being made from the Archipelago to put in Value the Canarian gastronomy and its excellencies, as well as the decided commitment for the local product, as a base of this cuisine, and the recognition of the work of our farmers, farmers and fishermen.

On November 22 there will be journalists and critics, both national and international, as well as a good number of chefs. In addition to the Michelin-star honors, chefs from the Bib Gourmand and Michelin Plates will be present. In the exclusive gala dinner, you can taste the creations of the four star restaurants of Tenerife: El Rincón de Juan Carlos (Los Gigantes), Abama Kabuki (Guía de Isora), Kazan (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and MB Isora), whose chef, Erlantz Gorostiza, will be the coordinator of the great culinary feast.

Martín Berasategui and Ricardo Sanz, with their respective restaurants Martín Berasategui (Lasarte-Oria, 3 stars) and Kabuki Wellington (Madrid, 1 star) will also be honored as hosts.
