International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) has just distinguished Abama Golf (Tenerife), the sports complex located in Guía de Isora, in the south of Tenerife, as the first golf course in Spain and the Canary Islands to receive Quality Assured Certification.

Peter Walton, executive director of IAGTO, said that “after launching the Quality Assured program in October 2019, we consider it appropriate for Abama Golf to be the first golf course in Spain to receive this award.” After having performed more than 250 golf tourism audits in the last twenty years, IAGTO holds a unique position to assess the level and qualification of a golf course when receiving national and international golf visitors.

“During the IAGTO Quality Assured Certification process, we conclude that the quality of the Guía de Isora golf course is backed by its excellent customer service in all areas. There is no doubt that Abama Golf is perfectly designed for the golf visitor for the first time and that every effort has been made to offer the best possible experience both on and off the field, ”adds Walton.

Abama Golf, a course designed by renowned golfer Dave Thomas, is consolidating among lovers of this sport as one of the best in Europe. Demanding for the most experienced and entertaining players for beginners, the design is combined with its incomparable panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the island of La Gomera, which makes the practice of golf in this field an unforgettable experience and a wonderful immersion in its exuberant nature, as it contains more than 300 species of subtropical plants, among which are about 22,000 palm trees.

The resort where he is located is constantly growing, and many golfers are also looking for him to establish his second residence. In fact, Abama has become an emerging destination for European golf tourists, and currently promotes several real estate products, including Abama Gardens, Tennis Villas, The Watchtowers, Bellevue or its Custom Villas. Although the sale of some of these promotions is already sold out, the construction of the new ones has already begun and the delivery is expected by the end of 2020, in the case of Villas del Tenis, and by the spring of 2021, in the Jardines de Abama

The development of Abama began in November 2002, with the inauguration of The Ritz-Carlton, Abama and the golf course in 2005, explains Brendan Breen. “Five years later, in 2010, the real estate development of the destination began by the Arum Group and, five years later, in 2015, the doors of the Las Terrazas de Abama tourist complex, which manages My Way Meaningful Hotels, opened. So far, more than 375 million have been invested in the overall development of the resort, ”he says.

The golf course, managed by Tropical Turística Canaria, S.L., owned by the Timón Group, is an 18-hole championship course. When Dave Thomas designed the course, he created the Augusta of Europe, with 22 artificial lakes, numerous waterfalls and white sand bunkers. It is considered by the ‘Leading Courses’ platform as the best golf course in the Canary Islands and one of the 10 best in Spain. Golf Digest, the most widely read magazine in the golf sector, considers it one of the best golf resorts in Europe.

Among its services, it offers a golf academy, which allows the improvement and learning of sport through PGA professionals, and a five-hectare practice area with three holes of par 3 for beginners and also a driving range, Chipping and putting greens.
