Cheap flights to the Canary Islands

Canary Islands has placed second in the market for low cost airlines in the first two months of the year with a 20.5% share and a total of 948,874 passengers, 21.1% more than in the same period of the previous year, according to data released Friday by the General Subdirectorate of Knowledge and Tourist Studies, under the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda.
In total, low-cost airlines transported 4.6 million passengers in the first two months of the year in Spain, which is a 16% increase over the same period of 2016.


By contrast, traditional carriers moved more than 4.7 million passengers through February, 4.7% more than in the same period of 2016, out of a total of 9.41 million international passengers arriving by plane, a 10 % More than a year earlier.
In this way, low-cost airlines took over 49.1% of the air traffic in the first two months of the year, compared to traditional ones, which commanded 50.9% of travelers.
In February, the low cost transported to 49.9% of passengers – 2.3 million -, an increase of 14.4%, while the traditional ones accounted for 50.1% of air traffic – 2.4 million – an increase of 2.6%.
Among the low-cost airlines (CBC), Ryanair, easyJet and Vueling continue to lead the ranking, concentrating 68.2% of the volume of passengers generated in low cost and 34% of the total international air flow received In Spain in this second month of the year.
The main countries that sent international passengers to Spain showed a favorable evolution, with the exception of Germany, which declined slightly.

United Kingdom and Italy, major issuers

United Kingdom, with 1.5 million passengers, 32.8% of the total, led the arrivals in low cost to Spain, which supposes a 20.1% more; followed by Italy, with 13.1% of arrivals, up to 604,432 travelers, 10.2% more, and Germany, with 10.5% of the total, and 485,334 low cost travelers, a 15.1% % plus.

France, the fourth issuing market, with 8.3% of all passengers in ‘low cost’, increased its passengers by 12.5% ​​in the first two months of the year, to 385,989 passengers.
It was followed by the Netherlands with 296,036 passengers in low-cost carriers, which is 18.5% more than in the first two months of 2016 and 6.4% of the total.

Mallorca airport grows 44.1%

The airport of Mallorca has been the one that has grown the most, 44.1%, but only monopolized the 3.1% of the total of passengers – 143,019 -, while it follows the Gran Canaria, with an increase of 27 , 4%, 5.3% of all low cost travelers and a total of 246,705 passengers.
For its part, Valencia is the third fastest growing (+ 25.1%), accumulating 4% of passengers – 186,641. It is followed by Malaga-Costa del Sol, with an increase of 22.1%, 11.5% of all low cost travelers and a total of 530,555 passengers. And Lanzarote (+ 22.1%), representing 187,975 passengers – 4.1% of the total -.
Nevertheless, Barcelona-El Prat continues a year more like the one that more passengers monopolize in low cost, 27.7% – 11.2% more and 1.28 million passengers -, while Adolfo Suárez Madrid- Barajas received a 15.3% flow to transport to 707,131, an increase of 8.3% compared to the same period in 2016.
Alicante, meanwhile, experienced a 15% increase in arrivals, 10.5% of the total, to 487,216 passengers.
Tenerife Sur accounted for 8.5% of the total, and recorded an increase of 13.5%, to 391,356 passengers.

Balearics, the most grows

By communities, Catalonia has captured 28.6% of low-cost passengers in the first two months of 2017, with more than 1.3 million passengers, 9.6% more.
After the Canary Islands, in third place is the Community of Madrid, with 15.3% of the total number of visitors to 707,131 passengers, 8.3% more.
These are followed by Valencia with 14.6% arrivals to 674,157 passengers, 17.2% more, and Andalusia, with a total arrivals of 14.6% (+ 21.4%), to 673,191 passengers .
Closing the list, we find the Balearic Islands, with a 3.3% of total arrivals, to 154,074 passengers, 49.3% more, becoming the community that grows the most in the first two months of the year.
Meanwhile, the remaining communities accounted for 3.1% of the group with 144,697 travelers, up 30.3%.
